A Few Words About Advertising

As you browse this website, you will no doubt notice a number of ads on various pages.  Since this is your screen space we're using, I thought that it only appropriate that you, the reader know what the ads are for and why they are there.

Let me begin by stating that I don't like them.  They are annoying.  They add to the load time for the page, and they often clash with the look and feel of the site.  Why then, are they here?  The answer is a simple one.  Money.

GeorgiaHikes.com was born from my own frustration at the lack of information available online for hiking and backpacking in Georgia.  The site is only in its 5th week, and already is receiving just over 5000 hits per week.  I expect that our traffic will continue to grow as we add content.  With this in mind, it becomes apparent that operating this website could be somewhat expensive.  Hence, the banner ads.

GeorgiaHikes is financed by my personal funds as a free resource to the hiking and backpacking community.  While there are no plans to change this in the foreseeable future, it would be nice to be able to offset some of the operational costs.

I ask you, the Georgia Hiker that if and when you purchase goods from these vendors that you consider doing so through this site.  It doesn't cost you anything extra, and the website makes a small commission on the purchase.

In seeking out these affiliates, I have attempted to align this website with companies that exhibit good customer service and integrity in their dealings.  If you are unhappy with their service, please tell me.  I have no desire to promote ill treatment of this website's audience.

Thanks for your time & Happy Trails!
