Build Your Own Bat House

The following plans are courtesy of the North Prairie Wildlife Research Center and will build a two foot high bat house suitable for wild bats.

Materials:
(2) pieces of 1" x 12" x 10' rough hewn lumber. (bats don't care for smooth wood generally speaking - do not use treated lumber.  Instead, use a wood such as cedar that will stand up to the elements)
(1) tube of silicone caulking
1 1/2" Deck Screws
1/8" wood bit for drilling pilot holes
Dark brown or black outdoor latex paint

Tools
Paintbrush
Drill (use as screwdriver as well - unless you just enjoy tedium)
Saw

Cut the lumbar according to the measurements below and assemble.  Caulk all joints and seams.  Bats hate drafts.  Paint the outside of the bat house dark brown or black.
